(Under Development)
From June 16–20, 2025, the Michod Lab in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Arizona (Tucson campus) hosted a National Science Foundation-funded summer internship for K–12 teachers (NSF Award #2029999). The focus of the workshop was on developing instructional materials to support teaching the evolution of biological complexity in the classroom.
As part of the program, participating teachers engaged with current research on hierarchical organization using the volvocine green algae model system, a widely used system in the study of biological complexity. Depending on teaching level and interest, teachers gained experience in microscopy, field collection of algae, algal culture maintenance, genetic analysis, population growth studies, and molecular genetic techniques.
This page is intended to share information about the completed workshop. It is not an active call for applications.
